The Converge Challenge Open Innovation

Converge Challenge Open Innovation aims to find the best examples of entrepreneurs successfully adopting Open Innovation principles and techniques to develop their business plans. Open Innovation Project partners nominate their own competition winners to compete in this North West Europe-wide business plan competition.  The competition is organised by Heriot Watt University, and has been run in November 2012 and 2013.  There are prizes in two categories: ‘Best Open Innovation Business’ and ‘Best Open Innovation idea’.

In 2012 the Best Open Innovation Idea was won by Ruben Jubeh and Ilija Vukorep of Kassel University for SQUID, an upside-down assistance robot with spatial recognition, self-reference in space and a safety system.  The Best Best Open Innovation Business was won by Dr Michael Fontaine of the Moredun Research Institute with his proposal for ArxBio an animal vaccine.

In 2013 the Best Open Innovation Idea was won by UXCam (University College, London) and the Best Open Innovation Business was won by SACCADE Diagnostics
