Converge Challenge Open Innovation 2012

The Converge Challenge Open Innovation aimed to find the best examples of entrepreneurs successfully adopting Open Innovation principles and techniques to develop their business plans. Open Innovation Project partners nominated their own competition winners to compete in this North West Europe-wide business plan competition.  The competition took place at Heriot Watt University , on 22 November 2012. The winners in the two categories were:

  • Best Open Innovation Idea was won by Ruben Jubeh and Ilija Vukorep of Kassel University for SQUID, an upside-down assistance robot with spatial recognition, self-reference in space and a safety system. SQUID is easy to install and has a modular concept which means that it can be easily adapted to applications including housekeeping, holding tools, providing light, nursery assistance, flexible projection and various applications as a consumer gadget. Ruben and Ilija won $300 of market research funded by Edinburgh City Council..
  • Best Open Innovation Business was won by Dr Michael Fontaine of the Moredun Research Institute with his proposal for ArxBio an animal vaccine. Michael won 2000 EUR of market research, funded by Heriot Watt University.
