Edinburgh Apps was the City's first Open Data Civic Challenge event. It started with an icebreaker on 26 September 2013 at which local developers were invited to come up with ideas based on data sets made available by City of Edinburgh Council.
They then had 5 weeks to develop their entries. There were a number of different approaches that could be taken from product concept to full mobile application and a 'be creative' category for those wishing to work with the data in a unique way. There was also a choice of five challenge themes to tackle: Health, Transport, Economy & Tourism, and Technology & Innovation as well as a 'Wildcard' theme.
At the final event on 10 November; the winner was Trashman,an app which helps people to find and share information on recycling facilities. Full information on the winners can be found here: http://2013.edinburghapps.net/
