The Unikat Crowdfunding Platform has been designed by Kassel University to support (very) early stage start-ups to reach market traction. They target to find (a) first funding, (b) first customers and (c) awareness/marketing. The crowdfunding platform is also considered as a "market-size check" to find out if products attract enough customers - the crowd can buy the products and other special offerings as we launch with reward-based crowdfunding projects.
The event was held on 20 February 2014 and attended by the Senior Mayor of the City of Kassel, representatives from Kassel University (staff and students), local and regional companies, pressman, and people interested in the crowdfunding and start-up scene in Kassel. Three teams will launch their projects and pitch to the audience to attract support. They are all at early stages of their start-up process and show the broad range of Kassel Universities research and knowledge transfer, for example an assembly set for an energy saving cooker (to be send to Uganda) or offering natural cosmetics The launch events was divided into three parts:
- The Official Part: this will include speeches from Kai Lorenz Wittrock (Managing Director, Economic Development Company for the Kassel region), Dr. Oliver Fromm (Managing Director, UniKasselTransfer Inkubator), Bertram Hilgen (Senior Mayor, City of Kassel) and Prof. Dr. Martin Lawerenz (Vice President, Kassel University).
- The Team Part: Three teams launch their projects and pitch to the audience to attract support.
- Networking with finger-food: This will give delegates the opportunity to connect and network with the Kassel crowdfunding and start-up scene.
