Open Innovation in Domotics

This free event was held on 8 February in Gent. It was organised by Kaho SInt-Lieven and Voka Chamber of Commerce and focussed on domotics; also known as home automation. It brought together students and researchers in this field with people working in related areas of industry.

  • Gert Verdonck from SERV (Social Economic Council of Flanders) discussed the theory behind the event by sharing the findings contained in her research report on open innovation in the building and domotics industry.

A practical focus was given by two of KAHO's researchers in the domotics field: Sylvie De Muynck and Joachim Goeminne. They shared their knowledge of home automation and the nature of their current research. They also highlighted the advantages of businesses working with a university colleges.

Last, but not least, Johan Vander Beken from Teletask gave us a look into the innovative products that his company is working on and discussed his experiences of working with other businesses, universities and university colleges.

The feedback from delegates was very positive:

  • 61% said that they were more likely to collaborate with other parties after they attended this seminar.
